Whoop unveils two new devices aimed at general wellness, longevity

Human performance wearable company Whoop released its first new hardware in nearly four years by unveiling two new devices on Thursday: the Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG, a new medical-grade version of the product, SBJ’s Joe Lemire reports.

Broadening its reach from primarily targeting athletes and fitness-minded consumers, Whoop now offers a slew of new features to capture more of the general wellness and longevity markets.

New sensors and an upgraded app provide a slew of novel metrics including Healthspan, which analyzes users’ Whoop Age and Pace of Aging. New sensor tech exclusively in the MG offers an FDA-cleared ECG that can be shared with a healthcare provider as well as patent-pending blood pressure measurements. A forthcoming feature called Whoop Advanced Labs will facilitate the scheduling of blood tests and the receipt of clinician reports through the app.

SPL to use Sportian management tools

The Saudi Pro League has agreed to a multi-year partnership with Argentine IT company Globant, SBJ’s Rob Schaefer reports.

The SPL will start using the Competition Management Suite, which was developed by Sportian -- a joint venture between Globant and LaLiga that serves as Globant’s sports division. The digital platform encompasses an array of modules. SPL, as one example, will use it to manage player registrations, uniform selections, lineup submissions and match official assignments.

Trademark filing hints at Detroit for next TGL team

TGL‘s plans for expansion into next season are becoming clearer based on a new trademark filing from the league this week, SBJ’s Josh Carpenter reports. TGL Golf Holdings filed for a “Motor City Golf Club” trademark on Tuesday with the USPTO. To date, only a name has been filed.

It’s not clear who the investors for a new team would be, though the Ford family, which owns the Lions, was in attendance at TGL matches during the league’s inaugural season. Speaking at SBJ’s CAA World Congress of Sports two weeks ago, TMRW Sports co-founder Mike McCarley said progress had been made on expansion and that he was “pleasantly surprised” at the number of bidders.
